Religion
Religion means lots of different things to lots of different people. Many people see it as a bad thing because they believe it has caused many wars in the past and some of the worst things to happen in history are thought to have happened because of it.
To many other people, it is the centre of their lives. Much of the way we all live our lives has come about because of religion. Many of our laws, our way of doing things, our holidays (such as Christmas and Easter) are there because of religion. It is also responsible for some of the greatest art and music as well as being the inspiration for many acts of great courage and selflessness.
In the last Census over 2 million people in Wales said that they were Christian, the second biggest religion was Islam, followed by Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism then Sikhism, but, over half a million people said they had no religion at all.
In these pages you will find information on the background of many of these religions with links to help explain the different beliefs. The Clubs and Societies database also has information on local places of worship.
