Christianity
Christians are the followers of Jesus Christ, who they believe is the son of God. He was born about 2000 years ago in Bethlehem, an event that is celebrated at Christmas.
After going round the country preaching and performing miracles, he found himself on the wrong side of those in authority and when he was 33 he was put on trial, nailed to a cross (crucified) and died, but came back to life again after three days – an event that is celebrated at Easter. By doing this, Christians believe that he took the punishment for everyone’s wrong doings (sins) and that anyone who believes in Him will be forgiven for their sins and will have a close relationship with God and will live forever in heaven.
Christians worship God by singing hymns and Psalms, praying and reading from their holy book, the Bible. Churches remember Jesus’ last supper at the Mass or Communion service in recognition of his sacrifice for them. They try to follow the teachings of Christ in their daily lives, and focus on justice, mercy (forgiveness) and walking daily with God.
